Moola Nakshatra

Mule (00°00′ – 13°20′ Sagittarius)

Varahamihira: Those whose Moon is in Mula are arrogant, rich, happy and do not like to hurt others. They have firm, fixed views and live in prosperity.

The symbol of Mula is several root crops gathered together and tied. Her deity is Nirriti (“plague”), the goddess of destruction and decay, personifying evil and corruption, sometimes called Alakshmi – the opposite of Lakshmi, the goddess of prosperity. Nirriti causes material deprivation, both directly and by driving away prosperity after it has been attained. Because the roots grow deep into the realm of the unseen, Mula is associated with reaching the bottom of being—literally or figuratively—namely, scientific, philosophical, and other methods of deep research. Although most of the time the individual goes deep into matters related to the sphere of the planet located in Moola, this penetration may not bear fruit, especially if the planet is afflicted in one way or another, as Niriti and Moola oppose abundance. For example, if the owner of the 10th house of profession is in Mula, then a person’s professional activity may not enrich him in the usual sense, but he will probably penetrate to the very essence of the matter. The late Martin Luther King, whose horoscope had this combination, was a man whose level of well-being did not correspond to his professional achievements.

Since Nirriti also means opposition, changeability and loss, Mula is associated with arbitrariness, as well as with borrowing and lending money with the inevitable loss of one of the parties. And if so, it is against the rules of Elective Astrology to borrow or borrow during the Moon’s transit of Mula, as debts can stretch out or cause a lot of trouble.

Lagna or Moon in Mula often indicates a capable and intelligent person with good oratorical gifts who can captivate the listeners. Mula also points to invisible causes that led to current events, such as germs being the cause of disease. Roots are also bases, beginnings and origins. Since plant roots are widely used for medical purposes, Mula is also associated with medicine. The fact that the roots of the Mula are connected adds a certain shade of closedness, dependence or limited mobility – these are also characteristics of this nakshatra. There may be a fairly clear tendency to be deceived or betrayed by colleagues or fellow workers.
