Mantra of blessing before meals

Brahmaaarpanam Brahma Havir
Brahmaagnau Brahmana Hutam
Brahmayava Tina Gantavyam
Brahma Karma Samaadhinah
Aham Vaishvaanaro Bhutva
Praninaam Dehamaashritaha
Praanaapaana Samaa Yuktaha
Pachaamyanam Chatur Vidam

Brahman is the act of offering.
Brahman, is the very essence of the offering.
Brahman and this oblation is offered.
Truly he attains God,
Who sees God in all His actions.
Brahman is the sacred fire,
And all-pervading cosmic energy
Which resides in all living beings.

This mantra is a verse from the 4th chapter of the Bhagavad Gita.

The mantra is not pronounced for God, but for our own good – it is she who is able to purify food with the help of divine blessing. The fact is that we do not always know (when going to cafes, restaurants, on trips) whether the food is prepared correctly, whether good quality products were used and so on.

Properly prepared food is:

  • – food freshly prepared from pure and fresh sattvic products (naturally without food additives and dyes, GMOs and flavor enhancers and usually grown without chemical fertilizers and delivered to the store without preservatives)
  • food prepared in clean dishes by a cook with clean hands, an apron and a cap on his head
  • food prepared by a cook “with a clean head”, that is, who was in prosperity, and not irritated, dissatisfied, etc.
  • it is food served on a clean table with a fresh tablecloth and clean utensils.

If at least one of the above conditions is not fulfilled – the food is not beneficial, not sattvic, not pure, it will not bring any benefit! The only way to purify our food is to offer it to God. The Lord always likes when we turn to him, and even more so when we dedicate or offer something to him. Therefore, as we only say this mantra (in the Christian tradition and in Islam there is also a similar practice of reading a prayer before eating), it becomes pure, blessed and consecrated food or prasad.

This mantra purifies any food, even poorly prepared, by removing all its flaws and imperfections, including the ingredients and even the utensils used to prepare it. This mantra is also able to harmonize the state of the five pranas of a person and can purify and sanctify in general any objects over which it is recited (for example, medicine).

Therefore, if you want to always be healthy, make it a rule to say this mantra before every meal!
